This website is operated by the City of Zearing, Iowa. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to understand which services and documents residents are looking for. Here is exactly what is collected and the choices you have.

What we collect automatically

We use two analytics services to understand how the site is used. Neither collects your name, and this site has no accounts, forms, or payments.

  • Google Analytics 4 records the pages you visit, how you arrived (for example a search engine or a link), your approximate location at the city level, and the type of device and browser you use. Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses.
  • Microsoft Clarity produces heatmaps and anonymized session replays that show how visitors scroll and click. Anything typed into a page is masked before it reaches Microsoft.

Cookies

These services set a small number of cookies to tell visitors and visits apart:

_ga, _ga_* · Google Analytics
Distinguishes visitors and sessions so we can count how many people use the site.
_clck, _clsk · Microsoft Clarity
Connects the pages you view in one visit so heatmaps and session replays make sense.
MUID · Microsoft
Identifies browsers across Microsoft services for Clarity.

How we use this information

Analytics tells us which pages residents visit most, which documents get downloaded, and where visitors run into trouble, so we can keep the most-needed information easy to find. The City of Zearing does not sell this data, use it for advertising, or share it beyond the analytics providers named above.

Your choices

  • Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its privacy settings; the site works fully without them.
  • You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics on every site you visit.
  • Most ad and tracker blockers stop both services entirely.
